Mental health care and gender dysphoria in transgender and gender-diverse youth

Podcast

“A lot of clinicians are seeing transgender and gender-diverse people in their practice, whether it’s urology, whether it’s primary care, whether it’s other subspecialties…[They should have an understanding] that transgender and gender-diverse people are at a higher risk of a multitude of mental health diagnoses,” says David A. Klein, MD, MPH.

In this episode, Urology Times® Managing Editor Ben Saylor spoke with Elizabeth Hisle-Gorman, MSW, PhD, and David A. Klein, MD, MPH. They discuss the mental health patterns in transgender and gender-diverse youth and how they are affected by gender-affirming care. Hisle-Gorman is an associate professor of pediatrics and Klein is an associate professor of family medicine and pediatrics at Uniformed Services University, Bethesda, Maryland.
