Drs. McVary, Kundu named to new faculty posts

Urologists Kevin T. McVary, MD, and Shilajit Kundu, MD, have been appointed to new faculty positions.

Dr. McVary has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield as a professor and chair of the division of urology in the department of surgery. Dr. McVary has been professor of urology at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago from 2005 to 2012. He founded and directed the Center for Sexual Health at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Prostate Diseases Minimally Invasive Program, and the hospital’s andrology fellowship program.

Dr. McVary completed a urology research fellowship at Northwestern and residencies in general surgery and urology at Northwestern Memorial. An experienced investigator in prostatic disorders, prostate cancer, andrology, and erectile dysfunction, Dr. McVary has been principal investigator for more than 115 clinical trials, including many for the National Institutes of Health.

His primary clinical areas are prostate diseases, including prostate cancer and BPH, as well as the evaluation and treatment of sexual function.

Dr. Kundu has joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center as a urologic oncologist focusing on the treatment of prostate, bladder, testicular, and kidney cancer.

Dr. Kundu, who completed his fellowship in urologic cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, sees patients twice a week at the Zion, IL-based medical center.

As part of the CTCA at Midwestern team, Dr. Kundu performs surgery, consults with medical oncologists and patients on surgical treatment options available, and monitors patients who may need surgical intervention in the future. Since joining the CTCA at Midwestern team, he has also implemented a new urology rehabilitation program to help patients recover and return to normal function following surgery.

In addition to serving patients at CTCA at Midwestern, Dr. Kundu is on staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is an assistant professor of urology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
