Ruchika Talwar, MD, on how urologists can get involved in advocacy

“I always encourage urologists and physicians in general to keep up with the organizations that they're a part of, like the AUA, that often advocate on your behalf," says Ruchika Talwar, MD.

In a recent interview with Urology Times®, Ruchika Talwar, MD, shared some key ways that urologists can become more invested in advocacy work. The first, she says, is to attend the Annual AUA Advocacy Summit if able.

This year’s Summit took place from March 3-5, 2025, in Washington, DC. At this year’s meeting, Talwar took part in a panel session titled, “Short Supply, Stronger Solutions: Tackling Drug Shortages in Urologic Care.”

Talwar is an assistant professor of urology and the medical director of specialty value-based care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Talwar also highlighted 2 less time-consuming ways to become involved in advocacy: keeping up with the AUA policy blasts and donating to the AUA Political Action Committee (PAC).

She noted, “I always encourage urologists and physicians in general to keep up with the organizations that they're a part of, like the AUA, that often advocate on your behalf. That's part of the advantage of being a member.”

Talwar also explained that both of these initiatives, engaging with the policy blasts and donating to the AUA PAC, “help drive and support those of us who spend a lot of time working on these issues.”
