“Transgender and gender-diverse people are at a higher risk of a multitude of mental health diagnoses, [which] really lends itself to a sensitive psycho-social history regardless of the specialty,” says David A. Klein, MD, MPH.

In this video, Elizabeth Hisle-Gorman, MSW, PhD, and David A. Klein, MD, MPH, discuss the impact of gender-affirming care on transgender youth and how practitioners can help predict and manage mental health diagnoses associated with that gender dysphoria. Hisle-Gorman is an associate professor of pediatrics and Klein is an associate professor of family medicine and pediatrics at Uniformed Services University, Bethesda, Maryland.
