Peter Scardino, MD, has been named the new chairman of the department of surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York.
Peter Scardino, MD, has been named the new chairman of the department of surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York. Replacing Murray Brennan, MD, who recently stepped down from the post after more than 20 years, Dr. Scardino has served as the inaugural chairman of the department of urology since 1999.
“Dr. Scardino’s leadership of the department of urology has been marked by outstanding clinical care and research productivity, innovative program development, successful recruitment of outstanding new staff, and a vigorous and highly coveted training program,” said Robert Wittes, MD, physician-in-chief at Sloan-Kettering. “I am confident that Dr. Scardino’s leadership qualities will serve the department of surgery and the Center exceedingly well in the coming years.”
Dr. Scardino, an internationally known expert in prostate cancer, serves as head of Sloan-Kettering’s Prostate Cancer Program and holds the Florence and Theodore Baumritter/Enid Ancell Chair of Urologic Oncology. He is a professor in the department of urology at both the Weill Medical College, Cornell University and the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center.
