Recently launched iPad app provides 3-D model of prostate, bladder

San Diego-UroSketch 3D, an application that provides a three-dimensional model of the prostate, bladder, and surrounding organs for use by physicians during consult with their patients, is now available for download and works with any iPad and iPad mini using the iOS 6 software. UroSketch 3D, developed in collaboration with Vancouver-based Conquer Mobile and a panel of urologists, consists of preset three-dimensional model views that allow a physician to zoom in on an image and show the image in 360-degree rotation. The app also offers illustration of different tumor stages and other features that currently focus on the prostate, according to GenomeDx Biosciences, which launched the app.

FDA OKs once-daily prophylaxis for kidney transplant patientsNorthbrook, IL-Astellas Pharma US, Inc. recently announced that the FDA has approved tacrolimus extended-release capsules (ASTAGRAF XL) for the prophylaxis of organ rejection in patients receiving a kidney transplant with mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and corticosteroids, with or without basiliximab (Simulect) induction. ASTAGRAF XL is the first once-daily oral tacrolimus formulation available in the U.S. for kidney transplant recipients, according to Astellas. The agent offers a potentially promising treatment option for appropriate kidney transplant recipients as a core component of an immunosuppressive regimen for the prophylaxis of organ rejection.

NAFC releases web, print assets for continence care managementCharleston, SC-The National Association For Continence (NAFC) has added a Continence Care Management section to its website, www.nafc.org, housing practical information and guidance for family caregivers and home health aides on how to manage incontinence in those they care for. Additionally, a new printed pamphlet, Caregiver Reference Guide: Continence Care Management, and educational slide series were produced to further supplement this online content. Generic version of overactive bladder treatment now availableAllegan, MI-Perrigo Co. recently announced that a generic version of the overactive bladder drug trospium chloride has received FDA approval and is now available. Trospium, also marketed under the brand name Sanctura XR, is a once-daily medication for the treatment of OAB with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and urinary frequency.
